- Facts about all the Child's Play movies The last film to use Child's Play in its title. As for Bender, a television director who as only occasionally dabbled in features, his aesthetic is one that underscores in every way possible the cheapness and tackiness of the film’s sets: he even manages to make the real-life Kemper Military School of Boonville, Missouri look like a set. Everything is just a little overlit and a little too close and the actors all seem a little too broad. The whole effect is honestly very typical of a cheap ’90s horror movie, but just because something is typical, does not mean it is not aggravating. The very opposite, in fact. Child’s Play 3’s military academy setting is filled with dark wood paneled rooms and chilly gray skies. It’s a moody little slasher sequel, with a finale setting almost as good as the Good Guy factory in the previous film. The nightmarish, neon soaked haunted house ride the final battle takes place in is like a playset from hell, adding to the themes of Chucky being a dark mirror to childhood innocence.
