For me personally the loyalty program was the most significant success,
it set the direction for the game and I was not a fan of it much.
Actually, there was a skin-related promo prior to that OSRS Gold where you had to
buy membership in a specific way to obtain it. This was my first
experience with the FOMO kind of content in RS. I'm sure I could have
made do without EOC in the absence of the hundreds of low-cost FOMO
Events and even RWT that came around during the same time. I like how
the old school people handle this, where you get everything you need
for the holidays every year as you complete the festive events. The
difference is like day n night, no one forces you to play. We just play
simply because we enjoy it.
For me, EoC was the most important reason. It changed Runescape rather
than RuneScape for me (in terms of combat-related games including PvP,
PvM Mini-games, Slayer, etc). However, MTX and Loyalty program type
rewards which were a way to reward players who spent money or simply
because you've been a player for longer than a certain amount of time
isn't exactly what I like. I'd like everyone to be in a fair playing
field. Like you stated with loyalty program cosmetics I'm not keen on
the idea that they will disappear forever. Similar to Leagues rewards
which are a one-time item. However, in OSRS Jagex are fair enough to
claim "We understand you missed out in league 1 but you are able to
purchase these rewards with points from leagues 2 or 3". Special offers
that last only for a limited time have no place on OSRS IMO (even with
holiday items). Each year, you'll be able to unlock the previous
rewards and this is the most effective way).
It's not a fire, but it's the amount of effort that goes in a piece
that's not likely to influence anyone's view as our views of the good
and bad were formed about 10 years ago. I like the game the way it
plays and would happily enjoy it with no updates for the rest of my
life (would prefer if thralls were removed) however some players
require updates in order to keep them interested and those opinions are
never going to be in harmony.
It's true that some people will not change their opinions about certain
issues but the idea behind my post was to say that the opinions of the
author aren't necessarily the same as everyone else.
Certain things are snubbed in RS3 however they are okay in OSRS If done
the right way. Consider GWD, Shooting Stars, Priff, and even Nex. The
majority of them are direct copies from RS3 (like GWD) and some are
slightly modified (shooting Star rewards and XP rates and priff being
not as the "hub" of the high tier community and Nex just dropping torva
and it being nerfed in order to meet OSRS BIS stats, and not
overpowering).
I'm convinced that Summoning Dungeoneering, summoning, and many other
things in RS3 can be used in OSRS just like those listed above,
provided that they are modified to be compatible with our game. Some
things don't need to be added... There are a myriad of ideas not in RS3
that we could come up with also. I'm happy for anything as that it's
thought-out carefully, thoroughly discussed, and voted upon by the
majority of players; this guarantees that Runescape gold it's healthy for the game.
