I'm in agreement with your thoughts. I had such a blast playing OSRS Gold the game in
the beginning I didn't even read the guide once and was completely immersed.
That's completely feasible to do and have plenty of fun playing the very
beginning levels and quests.
The game then forces you to grind really stupid skills while sitting in one
spot for HOURS. And this community normalizes and even praises the practice.
Some people just really like the "AFK" part of watching TV while playing the
game with only half their attention. Personally, I don't like playing this
way.
As you do, it totally hinders my involvement in this game and in the sense
that I'm trying to play a "role-playing game". At its core, I thought RS was
supposed to be an MMO. But really, it isn't.
I'll tell you this that, despite the fact that I hated it and it damaged my
immersion, I gutted it out and accepted the fact that you're required to learn
AFK skills in order to obtain all the requirements to unlock all the quests. I
did this because I love the quests in this game, but ugh it was a stupid
amount of hours. STUPID. I'm not sure how people can the skills up to 99. I'm
in the 70s base and only have maxed 99s for all combat skills, and farming.
Farming is the only fun skill that you can play. All other skills are
terrible.
However, the quests are incredible. The most challenging missions in the game
Song of the Elves is essentially a base 70s. Huge grind and commitment. I'd
suggest at least try to get the abilities to take on Sins of the Father. It's
one of my most favorite quests from the game and the requirements aren't quite
as difficult. 50 slayer, 56 craftings 60 fletchings, 52 woodcutting are some
of the most difficult requirements for this quest.
I can hear you on the Slayer. I'M unable to stand SLAYER. I'm not sure why
PEOPLE like it. It's just too boring. I am a level 70 slayer who has max
combat skills. I had 99 attacks and defense, strength and hitpoints while
killing ammonite crabs 100% AFK as I did my job.
I'll say this, it was worth it - I am a huge fan of the bossing aspect of this
game. If you've not tried the caves for fights to gain a fire cape, you must
do it prior to deciding if you'd like to leave the game. It's a lot of fun
mid-level bossing like the gauntlet but again requires songs of the elves and
a 70s base. The most thrilling bossing are raids (chamber of xeric) and
inferno , but they are so late in the game that you'll require high combat
stats. You are able to avoid skipping most "skilling" skills though when you
boss your way to earning money and other things that you require.
Anyways. I'm sorry for the difficulty to play OSRS with any level of intensity
due to how grindy the skills were. I'm guessing that as the game was being
designed its creators didn't anticipate anyone to ACTUALLY go for the highest
scores or even get an 89 in a skill. The game hasn't been updated or improved
since.
I'm seriously thinking that OSRS has a need for the introduction of an "easy"
or "beginner" mode on a special isolated server that is separate of the game,
where learning happens at a 100x rate of the current rate and it's actually
fun to play and fully immerse yourself into. Apparently, there is an
unofficial game mode known as "leagues" which has the possibility of a slight
increase in XP, but it's still way too low for me and it's not even in
existence right now, I think it only stays around for a few months and then buy Runescape gold is
gone until after the "season".
