The free-to-play game's goal is: Six attempts are required to correctly guess the concealed five-letter word. With each attempt, any correct letter appears in a green square if it is in the correct place. If a letter is in the word but you haven't guessed its right position, it will appear in a yellow square. A gray square is assigned to any letter that does not appear in the word.
As the game's popularity expanded, players began publishing their results on Twitter and Facebook, which drew criticism from non-players irritated by the viral spread of Wordle results posts in their social feeds.
